What is Happening With PlayStation 5 In Malaysia
In Malaysia, we too have some interesting developments about Playstation 5. First of all, it started with the fact that the retail price or pre-order was not even announced in Malaysia, and met with just a resounding “Please go and buy a Unit in Singapore” since they are launching it there in full fanfare. Needless to say, fans in Malaysia are not too happy about it and brought their case up to the @PlayStationAsia Facebook Page and on any Ads they were running as well.
Checkout the comments from the fanbase in Malaysia (and apparently other parts of South East Asia) and you get what I mean. The frustration is real.
Scalpers are effectively people who “have connections” that are able to get the PS5 “from somewhere” and sell it at 3x the price of the standard retail. Not surprised that there are some people who are really desperate are willing to spend that amount of money to get their hands and “to be the first” to play one.
How much does are the scalpers selling the PS5 out there? Have a look:
Pretend To Own a PlayStation 5 on Social Media
Of course, not being discouraged by the unavailability of the PS5, some playstation fans have taken to social media to entertain themselves and there was a famous Instagram filter that made the rounds too.
Yes you can bet I played with the filter too and here’s my handiwork:
Here’s how to use the filter on Instagram:
- Open the Instagram Mobile App, and Add to your story
- At the bottom of the screen are the filter icons – scroll through until you see the magnifying glass with the title “browse effects”.
- Give that a click, then look for a second magnifying glass up in the rip right corner which will show you a search bar when clicked.
- Type ‘PS5 box’ and select it
- Choose the box effect you like the most and click on ‘Try it’ (my personal favorite is the one from “aroneverything”, he got the shadows looking just right).
- Turn on your camera (make sure it’s the rear one) and take a picture of your surface of choice.
- Now you will see your PS5 box filter! Angle it and move it around so it looks how you want it and then take the picture.
- You’re all done!
Hint : You can also share it out to Facebook or TikTok to make more of your friends virtually “green with envy”
Now everyone can own a PS5… albeit virtually! LOL!
PS5 Pre-Orders
State Of Pre-Orders In Malaysia is generally “sold out” (read earlier paragraph about lack of stock). The story is that many game retailers in Malaysia opened pre-order events (and it is very nice of them to consider that there was a lockdown going on, so some were able to pre-order online) so that everyone would have a chance to own one “at launch”.
However, it is quite disappointing to know that one of the most popular game retailer shops here in Malaysia used the PWP (Purchase With Purchase) tactic on unsuspecting customers and this has caused many complaints (it has been 1 week since the incident at the time of writing and you can still see ugly comments appearing in every single Facebook Post / Ad that belongs to that company). It certainly made many people angry because they were seen as “greedy”.
The Name of the Retailer has been masked but I guess every gamer in Malaysia would already know who they are by now.
The issue became so big that Sony actually had to issue a statement to “help them” out in resolving the issue.
PS5 Price and Launch Dates Around SEA and The World
In Malaysia, the PS5 Digital Edition will be available at MYR 1,869 while the PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc drive will be available at MYR 2,299 on 11 December 2020.
Pre-order started on 12 November.
The rest of South East Asia would see pricing as follows:
Malaysia – Release date – December 11, 2020
PlayStation 5: RM2,299
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: RM1,869
Philippines – Release Date – December 11, 2020
PlayStation 5: ₱27,990
Sadly, there is no confirmation if the Digital Edition will be made available in Philippines, but fingers crossed.
Indonesia – Release date – January 22, 2021
PlayStation 5: Rp 8,799,000
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: Rp 7,299,000
Singapore – Release date – November 19, 2020
PlayStation 5: S$729
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: S$599
All Editions come with 1 DualSense Controller. An extra DualSense Controller will cost around USD70, which is USD10 more than the DualShock 4. The DualSense is the successor to the PS4’s controller, it doesn’t just look nice but also offers extra features such as Featuring adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, and haptic feedback technologies inside the controller. If you are wondering whether your old PS4 DualShock 4 Controller would work on a PS5, yes, you can still use the controller on the PS5, but it will only work while playing PS4 games.
At time of writing, Sony has plans to launch in more countries eventually. For now, it has already been launched on November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. November 19th is “the rest of the world”, which evidently it is a “work in progress” when it comes to making the announcements.
Surprisingly, despite China having a huge gamer market, the launch date has still not been set or mentioned at all.
To those who are reading this article and “in the waiting list”, stay calm and carry on with your regular gaming activities… Or drool over these teaser and trailer videos first…

PS5 Teardown: An up-close and personal look at the console hardware
PlayStation 5: Unboxing, Gameplay + First Impressions
My opinion : Too early to buy one now. Personally I think it is really not a good idea to put in the money for something brand new and “untested in the masses”. Looking back at my own video console purchases, I usually only buy them after they have been released for a good 6 months to 1 year in the market. My PS3 was the standard Fat version, and my PS4 was a Limited Edition Star Wars BattleFront sticker and red and Black Dual Shock controller.
And no I don’t really encourage buying “unlocked” or cracked versions UNLESS it is already taken off the market or discontinued due to potentially risky warranty issues.
Why is warranty important? Because lately there is also news that some gamers have experienced odd buzzing sound and “database rebuild” issues when their PS5 went to sleep. If that doesn’t make you stop and think twice… I don’t know what will.
Do I need extra PS5 Accessories
There are basically 2 types of accessories – Official Sony Accessories, and third party. Only time will tell whether there will be many other new third party accessories that will join the fray in providing gameplay value and convenience (one can still do with 1 or 2 extra storage space add ons, or some customization bits for their console, for example).
Despite Sony officially did say the Digital Edition should have enough space for “the normal gaming needs”, gamers around the world especially PC Gamers and PS4 Gamers alike noticed that DLC and continuous updates of the games can really bloat up over time.
However, from how I see it, there is yet another drama brewing in the PS5 space, where there is news of third party accessory companies being “bullied into submission”. A company called “CustomizeMyPlates” was in the line of fire when they started to accept pre-orders for “FacePlate Add-Ons” to the Digital Edition of PS5 using the “PS5 FacePlate”. Sony quickly reprimanded them for using the copyrighted term. The company has since refunded all customers who pre-ordered under the old name and had to start over again in their business.
By the way, PS5 FacePlate is actually referring to the large side pieces of PS5 that can be customized to different mood and style of the Gamer. Now we know the reason why it is SO HUGE in the living room. It can also be used as a decorative art piece hahaha.
Playstation 5 Games List (New or Remastered)
As usual when we mention Playstation, all games usually comes with also a hefty price tag.

So What Are the Games available at PS5 Launch?
New titles are being announced as the days go by but I think the confusion for many is how many of these titles are also playable on PC, or whether it is a Playstation Exclusive.
The first game that will probably be in your Playstation 5 console is “Astro’s Playroom” (Free, Preinstalled with PS5). This is sort of a demo game where you get a chance to experience the new DualSense Controller in its full capacity, not to mention also to showcase playstation 5’s SSD loading capabilities. When this game was first revealed during the Playstation 5 event, many thought Sony would put Playstation VR “front and center” of the gameplay experience by introducing a sequel to its original “PlayStation VR ASTRO BOT: RESCUE MISSION”. Looks like Sony decided that staying true to the controller route would be more appealing to gamers around the world. Heh.
Then there is that game that keeps appearing whenever PS5 is mentioned, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a true Sony exclusive, and of course it will be one of the major titles that will be available at launch. I played the original and I certainly enjoyed the game, swinging around New York and fighting crime is no doubt the perfect premise to have both a casual and storyline driven gameplay. I have to mention that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not a “true full game” like the original Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018), instead it is sort of like a “seperate story mode” that does not require the original to play.
God Of War series has been one of the Playstation Exclusives since the first version which came out in 2005, which brings our beloved character Kratos from a young fiery aggressive revenge driven demi god, well into the latest iteration that sees him becoming a dad to a son, who would eventually be the harbinger of Ragnarok. So “God Of War: Ragnarok” is the next iteration in this series, one that rumour says will not have a PS4 title, and only PS5 exclusive. (You can cue to sighs now.)
Demon’s Souls is yet another Sony exclusive that is released for the PS5 at launch. This action role playing game has made waves since the first version was released in Playstation 3 (although the earlier working title would be Dark Souls). Featuring Dual Modes – Single Player and Multiplayer, this is one title that showcases another stunning graphic display of environments and battle. The premise of the game is simple : you the player defeat bosses in game with the help of other players’ “ghosts”, namely whenever another person dies in game, they will leave clues in the form of bloodstains and you can basically replay their last moments to get a hint on how to avoid / defeat a trap / kill the monster. I played Dark Souls once, and it is by far one of the most challenging games ever created as it can be pretty brutal. Definitely not for the “casual runs” but more like serious adventure puzzle solving stuff.
Then there is a whole slew of titles that will be released in due time, which are not really Sony Exclusives.
Don’t forget we also have a slew of “remastered” game titles coming to the PlayStation 5. Among the gaming community, I think we all agree that it’s so gonna be the year of “remastered”: Almost every game that is playable on PS4 can be played on PS5, and patches to support the new console are pushed out as we speak. Why do they still need to issue a patch you ask? It’s because most games have old codes only run the gameplay at 30 frames per second, and not all on glorious 4K. So you might feel that the game is a bit slower especially on intense action based games where there is a lot of special effects or quick movement of on screen game characters. When you have a Playstation 5 (supports 60fps on a 4K display), the frames per second count becomes a “liability” sometimes in the game experience due to being “under utilized”.
The Good News is, almost All PS4 titles can be played on the PS5, however you just need to be aware that your old PS4 DualShock Controller might still be a better fit for these games. To help you get started, you may also want to consider the Sony’s PlayStation Plus Collection for the PS5. Imagine over 15 games with both Sony’s own and third-party titles ready to be downloaded on your brand new spanking PS5… how inviting is that?! That will certainly help you fill up that Game Library with something to play while waiting for newer optimized titles to be available.
Here’s a list for your reference:
- God of War
- The Last of Us: Remastered
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
- Battlefield 1
- Monster Hunter World
- Fallout 4
- Final Fantasy XV
- The Last Guardian
- Ratchet and Clank
- Infamous: Second Son
- Days Gone
- Bloodborne
- Detroit: Become Human
- Batman Arkham Knight
- Mortal Kombat X
- Persona 5
- Until Dawn
- Resident Evil: Biohazard
The list above are games that I’d personally lookout for, based on my own gaming preferences. If you happen to be on the radar for these titles as well, kudos! And don’t worry if your favorite game did not get the “remastered” treatment as it seems that the PS5 has “Game Boost” feature to auto-enhance PS4 games, which includes reduced loading times, improved frame rates and resolutions, and even the ability to “take advantage of some of PS5’s new UX features”.

Placing Your PS5 Vertical or Horizontal
In the past, I remember when I got my PS4 for the first time, one of the first question I had on my mind was “where to put my playstation console”. Fast Forward to now, it is definitely one of the most asked questions for any new gamer into the fold, seeing that more people will start to get acquainted with video console gaming.
Just like the previous iterations of PlayStation 2 / PlayStation 3 / PlayStation 4, the new PlayStation 5 Video Console is designed to be placed both ways: horizontally and vertically.
When you place it upright, it will look like a silent monolith in your living room next to your TV. After all it is the biggest home console ever produced by Sony, with a size that’s 15.4 inches tall, 10.24 inches deep and 4.09 inches wide. The heavyweight champion is at about 14 lbs.
For those of you used to the metric system (which is what we use over here in the other side of the world), here’s a handy conversion for you:
Base: 390 mm × 260 mm × 104 mm (15.4 in × 10.2 in × 4.1 in)
Weight: 4.5 kilograms (9.9 lb)
Digital Edition: 390 mm × 260 mm × 92 mm (15.4 in × 10.2 in × 3.6 in)
Weight: 3.9 kilograms (8.6 lb)
In other words : HUGE and SOLID.
Here’s a few samples of how you can potentially make space for your PlayStation 5 (if you are not too busy playing the game on the console to bother with the guest aesthetics).
So If you are inviting a friend over? And you are the “Just tell them to bring the beer and chips and start ’em up and play” kind of person, I guess I should not be surprised that it is probably still sitting on the floor with the box beside it 1 week after!
How about maintaining a Playstation 5 you ask? Usually for game consoles is it quite straightforward in maintenance : Cleaning & Dusting the exterior is a must (since the default FacePlates are now White, you might want to take extra care that it stays white). Don’t forget about the console’s black body as well, just use a grab a dry cloth and to brush off anything visible. If your living area is a little on the dusty side, you may want to also invest in a bit of time to clean the interior. Check out a useful how to guide here.
How about Cleaning the PS5 DualSense Controller? Invest in some Surface Wipes, or even Baby Wipes can also do the trick, as basically it has a little alcohol to clean out the sweat and grime after long hours of play. For those connector ports on your controller, use cotton bud and soak it in alcohol and use it to clean the micro USB, headphone, and EXT ports on the controller. Some will also go one step further to also clean out the left and right sticks and the groves with toothpick.
Cable Management for PS5 is somewhat of an afterthought, but it will come in handy when you start investing in other equipment, i.e those of you interested in going live streaming or even additional accessories that hook up to your PS5.
For now you can be assured that there is a HDMI Cable (HDMI 2.1-compliant, the same one that shipped with the PS4 Pro), AC power cord and a “USB-C to USB-A” cable, however the usual story is the HDMI cable might not be in the ideal length you need for your living room. In front of the console is a USB port and a USB-C port. You can use these to plugin an extra storage kit to expand your PS5 space if you need to.
What To Do While Saving Money To Buy a PS5
Well, there is always your mobile phone to keep you company… great titles such as Genshin Impact (which Free) can give the kind of upscale high graphics gaming need so that you won’t feel left out of the video console gaming trend. Watch the video on my live stream to get a feel of the quality.
If you are lucky to have a decent laptop, try out a few games on it. Epic Games has been giving away a number of slightly older titles that do well on older PCs, so no worries if you don’t really have a “high end PC with a super duper graphic card”. If your PC has decent processing and memory speed, you can try to run a few emulators on it and play some really good classic games like Prince Of Persia The Sands Of Time for a change. I do that often just for kicks and keen to share a few tips on how to setup that emulator with some games (for educational purposes, or for personal use).
Buy a second hand video console from your nearest marketplace or secondhand store (In Malaysia, seems that Mudah.my, Shopee, Lazada and Facebook Marketplace are popular picks). There is always Facebook Marketplace or an online store near your area who probably have people looking to let go older gaming kits because they planned to get new kits. Take that opportunity to own a PlayStation and give it a go before committing to the “latest and greatest” in PlayStation technology!
And don’t forget to frequently check for the latest bargain on Playstation 5 Games List on the internet and the official Playstation Channels.
Final Thoughts
I hope this article would give you some insights and news about Playstation 5 Games List, and perhaps entertain you a bit until the right time to own one (depending on offers, or working out that budget). Happy gaming guys and until the next article see you soon in my live streams!
